Wednesday, May 16th, 2012

Yesterday, Teltek was honored to be an exhibitor at Maryland Society of Accountants‘ “Gear Up Accounting” Seminar. The event was held at the Holiday Inn in Frederick, MD and was attended by almost 150 people hoping to hone their accounting skills. The two day seminar continues today. It was a great opportunity for us to reach out to the attendees to educate them on our telecom and IT services and products and we were also able to show off our new tabletop display! It is pictured below:

Girl On Wire – Permission To Buzz Fort McHenry? Granted, Blue Angels!

Monday, May 14th, 2012

Who loves airshows? I DO! One of my favorite hobbies is frequenting the many areodynamic showcases that occur in the tri-state area. I am also an avid Blue Angels fan, so when I heard that the Angels were making an appearance at the Star-Spangled Sailabration, which takes place here in Baltimore from June 13th-19th, I was so happy I could do a barrell roll! If only I had a fighter jet…

The rumors are true! As part of Baltimore’s salute to the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812, otherwise known as Star-Spangled Sailabration, the Blue Angels flight demonstration team will be performing in Baltimore’s first ever airshow on Saturday, June 16th from 1-4pm and on Sunday, June 17th from 1-4pm. These awesome fighter jets will perform their routines over the Middle Branch River, just south of Fort McHenry. The actual start time can depend on the weather, so check the website the day of the performance for any updates.

Teltek, The One To Hire For Wire

Thursday, May 10th, 2012

Here at Teltek, we learn a lot from listening to our customers. Our IT division grew out of a request from many of our customers who wanted to have one company supporting all of their technology. We also learn a great deal from listening to our certified expert technicians. After all, they are in the telecom and technology trenches every day, so when they have something to say, we are all ears!

Teltek Blog Reunites Old Army Buddies

Tuesday, May 8th, 2012

Almost two years ago, we posted a blog featuring Bob Nicoli, the founder of Teltek. It was a great story about Bob’s start in the telephone industry and how Teltek grew from his experience as “Bob the Phone Man” into the company that is now run by his wife, Debi with assistance from their son, Chris.

Last month, one of Bob’s Army friends from basic training and an assignment in Germany while they were both enlisted, found Bob by conducting a search online. He came across this blog and left the following response, “Bob, I am assuming you are the Bob Nicoli that was stationed in Germany with the 1st of the 509th Airborne? If so, it would be nice to catch up & talk about our families as well as talk about old times” Dick

Girl On Wire – Self Promotion Notions

Monday, May 7th, 2012

Last week I was driving to my weekly networking group and saw something on the side of the road that caught my attention; it was a full grown man dressed as a banana. That’s right, I said BANANA. It was a stem to toe yellow costume and this guy was having a blast in it! He was advertising for a health food store by dancing around with a sign and waving at cars, beckoning them to visit the storefront behind him. I was so impressed with his enthusiasm and energy, he was truly embracing his inner wackiness and I respect that.

What lengths would you go to in order to promote your business? Would you dress up like one of the Fruit of the Loom gang or stand on a street corner twirling a giant arrow? Maybe you’d be willing to shoot a TV spot singing a catchy jingle or pretend you’re talking on a toy phone ;) The more outrageous you are willing to get, the more memorable the effect will be. Memorable is not always the best route to take though; if your idea is offensive or too ridiculous, you could attract the wrong kind of attention and be seen as a laughingstock instead of being considered a groundbreaking visionary.

Girl On Wire – Let’s Get Festive!

Monday, April 30th, 2012

At Teltek, we like to work hard and play hard! Living and working in Baltimore City is a fantastic adventure and one of the aspects I love about Baltimore is the city’s appreciation of celebration in the form of festivals. The arrival of Spring kicks off a plethora of outside events that feature crafts, entertainment, food and fun for all ages and interests.

There are far too many to mention in one blog, so I’ll highlight some of the fetes I have been to personally so you get the Girl On Wire perspective. ALL of these are free to attend and I included the dates they occur in chronological order so you can mark your calendar now for the 2012 Baltimore festival season :)

Tuesday, April 24th, 2012

On Tuesday May 1st, Teltek and the Emerging Technology Center (ETC) will be hosting a BBJ Smart Reader seminar to be delivered by Tim Foley of the Baltimore Business Journal. Please join us on May 1st in the main conference room of the ETC’s Canton facility for this informative presentation! The seminar is free of charge and lunch will be provided. Teltek is a Baltimore Business Journal subscriber and is pleased to offer this seminar to its ETC neighbors and other interested businesses.

The purpose of this lunch and learn is to educate readers on the best and most efficient ways to utilize the information contained in the Baltimore Business Journal. At times it can be challenging to keep up with a weekly publication, but Tim will show you which areas of the paper to focus on and how a 10 minute review can provide you with important business leads and keep you current with what’s new in the local business scene.

Girl On Wire – Spring Cleaning

Monday, April 23rd, 2012

Now is the time of year when you start thinking about warmer weather and sunnier days. I like to welcome the season by leaving the windows open, hanging out on the back patio with my dogs and shopping for new Spring clothes!

Spring is also a time of renewal and a great opportunity to clear out the junk and freshen things up. Many of us will commence Spring Cleaning of some kind; powerwashing the front of the house, dusting off the patio furniture, donating unwanted items or setting up the grill for barbecue season.

Girl On Wire – Changing Of The Guard At ETC

Monday, April 16th, 2012

On April 12th, I attended a farewell party for Ann Lansinger, the former Executive Director of the Emerging Technology Center (ETC), which Teltek has called home for almost one year. It was a very special send-off for the ETC’s leader of 13 years.  Several current ETC tenants were in attendance in addition to Ann’s co-workers, a few close friends and colleagues, her brother and even a few former tenants. The party was a celebration of her accomplishments and a way for all of us to wish her well as she closes a chapter and commences a new one.
