Teltek – Small Business, Big Value

Monday, January 10th, 2011

When researching companies to install and support your telephone system, the size of the business who will be servicing you is something to consider.

Some business live by the mantra “get big fast”; big possibly translating to deeper pockets, and being faster and servicing more clients.  But, the value that these traits offer to their customers is only a perceived value.

Avaya IP Office Partner Edition: New and Easy to Use Programming

Wednesday, December 8th, 2010

A little shout-out to Avaya….  For we techs, the days of explaining the nuances of pressing Feature 15 pound pound star pound are over.

I can probably speak for most techs when I say that throughout the years of installing telephone systems, working with tech savvy customers is something we’ve typically preferred.  Whenever a non-savvy client wanted to make even the smallest programming changes to their switch (and do it themselves) we techs grew just a bit nervous — as we’ve seen the adage “a little knowledge is a dangerous thing” prove itself accurate time and time again.

“You Better Shop Around” – The Basics of Phone and Internet Bill Audits (Part I)

Monday, October 18th, 2010

While learning to audit phone and internet bills, I was overwhelmed by many of the terms I needed to understand to audit thoroughly and correctly. Although some of these terms were used across the board, many were bill specific; it was like learning a whole new language – one that I couldn’t even go someplace foreign and fun to use!  As part one of what will likely become a series of future blogs, Teltek wanted to do some basic bill education so you, too can start to understand what you’re paying for each month.

First we’ll explain the types of phone calls. Imagine that phone calls can take place on four separate levels: 1) on an international level between countries, 2) on a national level between states, 3) within a state between different counties and 4) one place in a county to another place in the same county.  Keeping this example in mind, we’ll explain the different types of phone calls and how it will affect your bill.

Teltek Attends Extreme Makeover: Home Edition Premiere Party in Baltimore

Tuesday, September 28th, 2010

On the evening of September 26th, a few members of Team Teltek attended Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’s Premiere Party at Notre Dame Preparatory school in Towson. The party was thrown to celebrate the airing of the episode documenting the construction of the girls’ home for the Boys Hope Girls Hope organization.

Teltek was one of the many companies that donated time and building materials to the construction project, which took place in mid-July and resulted in the 11,000 square foot residence revealed at the end of the episode. Great emotion filled the auditorium as guests watched the trials and tribulations of countless volunteers as they battled rain, a small earthquake and the clock to complete the epic project in record time.

The New CAT-2

Thursday, September 16th, 2010

Cabling is an essential part of the world around us, without which we would not have electricity in our homes, television to watch, or most importantly, phone service! In the telecommunication field, cabling serves to improve data speeds, or provide a crisper/cleaner connection. You might hear terms like “CAT-3,” “CAT-5e”, or “CAT-6” thrown around when you speak to a telecommunications vendor. CAT-2, is another form of cabling, but it is no longer used in the profession. However, Teltek has re-vitalized CAT-2, in a very unique way. This is all due to the opening of Teltek’s new location in Baltimore, MD.

After the opening of Teltek’s new location in Baltimore, MD, two new “employees” became part of the team. They both have the spry attitude of a salesman, keen wisdom of a marketing associate, and warmth of a customer service rep. One might say that is a “triple threat” in the business world. However, there is one major problem they both share, which can be summed up in one word: MEOW! That’s right, if you every get a chance to visit our Baltimore location, you will no doubt meet George and Charles, the Teltekats! Although these two felines aren’t made of wires and plastic, they accomplish cabling’s most basic purpose: to make a connection. Any pet owner reading this has to agree that whether you have a cat, dog, bird, rabbit, etc., they provide a great deal of pleasure for you.

Questions to Ask When Buying a Phone System

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

Below is the dialog between me a prospective Teltek client as they try to decide which phone system to purchase, Avaya or NEC; I thought this content may be beneficial for others to see so they will know what questions to ask when shopping for a new telephone system and selecting a reliable vendor.

Teltek Assists with an Extreme Makeover Project!

Monday, July 12th, 2010

Teltek was thrilled to be invited to participate in Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’s latest project; construction of a facility for teenage girls in Northeast Baltimore for Girls Hope. Boys Hope Girls Hope, http://new.boyshopegirlshope.org/baltimore/About.aspx,  is a nonprofit organization which empowers young people to reach their fullest potentials through community service and education. A facility already exists for the boys and the one under construction will serve as a safe haven for Baltimore’s teenage girls. According to ABC, this is the largest project Extreme Makeover: Home Edition has ever orchestrated.

Homesafe Security Systems, http://www.homesafesecurity.com asked us to join them in running cable for the phones, televisions, computers and security system. Seven Teltek team members arrived on site this past Sunday in their blue EMHE t-shirts and white hardhats to pull cable and install hardware. It was an amazing feeling to work alongside so many talented individuals toward a common and charitable goal. We will be posting photos of the experience to the Teltek website soon.
If you would like to contribute your skills, money or materials to the effort, please visit http://www.excelhomes.com/baltimoreextreme for a detailed outline of what exactly is needed to complete this extraordinary project.
