Girl On Wire – Self Promotion Notions

Monday, May 7th, 2012

Last week I was driving to my weekly networking group and saw something on the side of the road that caught my attention; it was a full grown man dressed as a banana. That’s right, I said BANANA. It was a stem to toe yellow costume and this guy was having a blast in it! He was advertising for a health food store by dancing around with a sign and waving at cars, beckoning them to visit the storefront behind him. I was so impressed with his enthusiasm and energy, he was truly embracing his inner wackiness and I respect that.

What lengths would you go to in order to promote your business? Would you dress up like one of the Fruit of the Loom gang or stand on a street corner twirling a giant arrow? Maybe you’d be willing to shoot a TV spot singing a catchy jingle or pretend you’re talking on a toy phone ;) The more outrageous you are willing to get, the more memorable the effect will be. Memorable is not always the best route to take though; if your idea is offensive or too ridiculous, you could attract the wrong kind of attention and be seen as a laughingstock instead of being considered a groundbreaking visionary.

Teltek has a Hole Lot of Fun in One Evening!

Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011

Last week, Teltek participated in the Emerging Technology Center (ETC)’s annual Mini Golf Tournament. It’s a very creative and interesting event that is staged inside the ETC facility, perfectly suited for miniature golf with its wide hallways and short (fast) carpet. A few of the resident companies (including Teltek) were asked to design holes for the course and we gladly accepted that challenge!

Using phone and cabling equipment, Teltek’s head IP Office engineer, Mark Baugher, designed a hole inside the Teltek suite that was whimsical, yet challenging. Chris Nicoli, Rob Cox and Carrie Green represented Teltek in the competition, but since participants were not allowed to be on a team with co-workers, they were able to meet other business people and get in some great networking as part of the game.

Girl on Wire – Cast Your Net Wide

Monday, October 31st, 2011

Networking is a very popular buzz word these days and is a concept that continues to expand nationwide. Is networking an effective tool? I would have to say yes to that and I have my own experience to prove it!

I was living and working in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and decided to relocate to Baltimore, Maryland. I searched online for companies I wanted to work for and sent several cover letters and resumes. I followed up by calling and emailing, but could not get an interview with anyone.
