The list is the result of proprietary ratings provider and investment adviser, GMI Ranking’s, careful review of accounting and governance policies of over 8,000 publicly traded companies in North America. In reviewing the companies GMI focused on key indicators of a company’s credibility by analyzing potential high risk events, expense and revenue recognition methods, SEC actions and bankruptcy risk. In a world where Enron and WorldCom had captured the media’s attention for wrongdoing, GMI’s Kaplan, says that they started the list to highlight the good in corporate America and “focus some light on those companies that are transparent and consistent.”
