Do you work with awesome people? I do! As one of the fortunate individuals who work at Teltek, I am amazed and sometimes surprised at our capabilities. Last week I shared my own troubleshooting story, but this week features one of our real life techs!
The following is a transcript (from memory) of an actual phone conversation between me and Dave, a Teltek technician:
Me: Hey Dave, I have a Service Order for you at XYZ Company.
Dave: Sure, what’s up?
Me: They need you to check extension 12 for static, reprogram their auto attendant and install an outlet in their conference room.
Dave: Install a what?
Me: An outlet.
Dave: An outlet?
Me: Yeah, you know. One of those things in the wall you plug things into…
Dave: Yes, I know what an outlet is, but I can’t install one.
Me: You install phone jacks, what’s the difference?
Dave: About 120 volts.
Me: Oh.
Dave: That’s high voltage work, an electrician needs to do that.
Me: Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
This was a very enlightening conversation for me. I felt like an idiot at first, then realized that the reason I thought this was a service we could provide to the customer was because of a set of core beliefs I have in Teltek. They are as follows:
I believe that Teltek is the best damn Telecom company on the planet
I believe that our technicians are superheroes who wear tools belts instead of capes and that they can do absolutely anything asked of them. If I wanted a ferris wheel in my backyard, I believe one of our techs could install it and get it to work, lights and all!
I believe I need to get more familiar with what services we can and can’t offer.
I believe I need a margarita after all that, but another time…
So the moral of the story is, have faith in your company and co-workers, but know their limitations. Apparently, it scares some people to work with high voltage installations if they are not trained in that…how shocking!
I’ll bet there’s more “superhero stories” out there, leave your comments below to brag about your awesome co-workers!
