Girl on Wire – Teamwork

Aug 22, 2011

A few weeks ago, I participated in a scavenger hunt at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, DC. It was a very unique way to spend an afternoon and it gave me the opportunity to pay a little more attention to some of the exhibits I didn’t really notice before. The group that assembled at the museum that day divided into teams and from there, we raced to be the first to finish.

While my team was not the victor in this contest, we did really well and it all came down to good teamwork. One of us was in charge of writing down all the answers, another was familiar with the museum layout and then there was the guy with an eye for detail who found a few of the more elusive clues. We all had fun and learned a lot about history and science.

Teamwork is something Teltek promotes and excels at on a daily basis. All departments collaborate to get the job done and we’re all better for it. Communication is key to a successful team environment. Whether we’re in the office or out at a job site, we are in constant contact with each other through the use of email, cell phones, fax and of course, the Avaya IP Office phone system that connects our Westminster and Baltimore offices.

Every Monday morning, we have a project update meeting to make sure we’re all aware of ongoing projects and service issues, new customers, customer feedback and anything else a team member thinks is pertinent to share. Preparing for the Margarita Party was another team effort, we all pitched in to make sure we had planned for everything from invitations to the stars of the party, the margarita fountains!

Back in May, Team Teltek completed a team building workshop at Terrapin Adventures in Savage, MD. This facility specializes in high adrenaline activities, but also helps co-workers learn how to communicate more effectively and see things from new perspectives. The day began with us each telling the group a few personal things about ourselves. Later on, we worked together to get our entire company to move from a tarp we were all standing on to the flip side of it without speaking!

After completing a few more exercises, we ended the day by going for a ride in a giant swing and zip-lining from a high platform. It was exhilarating and terrifying at the same time. The day ended with Happy Hour at Ram’s Head Tavern. Over drinks, we talked about the day’s events and socialized a bit. The personal connections combined with mutual respect and a unified dedication to company and customers make Teltek a great team.

Does the company you work for promote working as a team? Tell us how – we’d love to hear from you!
