Doorphone Issues Fail To Knock Down A Teltek Customer

Jan 12, 2012

One of our Baltimore-based customers relies on their Avaya IP Office door phone to communicate effectively with visitors to their office. It is installed on the outside of their front door and allows guests to
call the front desk to announce themselves. If the office wishes to admit the visitor, they press a button and the door unlocks, allowing the visitor to enter the building.

This customer has had difficulty in the past with weather affecting the quality of communications between their office workers and visitors. The existing door phone was replaced with a more weather-resistant model and that worked well for a while, but occasionally the call clarity problems resurfaced.

The cabling was replaced with new wiring and that seemed to help, but some of the calls were disrupted when there was excessive road noise present, like a large truck driving by. It was suggested that the phone be replaced with a full-duplex phone. A half-duplex phone will only allow one type of sound at a time,
so if there is a loud background noise while the phone is in use, the call will cut out. Installing a full-duplex phone would allow voice and background noise to coexist.

Teltek technicinans were able to isolate this as an issue and keep a longstanding customer’s business operational. Fortunately the customer has a Teltek Maintenance Agreement which covered all of the repairs and troubleshooting – even the replacement cabling! Our many years of experience in telecom have provided us with many troubleshooting techniques and we will not let a technical difficulty get the
best of us!
