Girl On Wire – London Shows Off For The World

Jul 30, 2012

If you were able to catch the opening ceremonies for the Olympic Games now underway in London, I’m sure you would agree that it was a pretty awesome show! I’m not big into watching sporting events (live or televised), but Olympic opening ceremonies is something I try not to miss.

London had a tough act to follow after Beijing set the bar so high four years ago and I must say…well done Chaps! What I love about this headlining act is that each host country incorporates certain elements that have to be there; introduction of the teams, torch lighting, etc, but makes it their own by infusing local history and culture.

Despite all the world’s problems with natural disasters, political upheaval and the like occurring at all times around the globe, this is an event that seems to engage the hearts and minds of people everywhere. We share that common bond of wanting to be the best at what we do and show pride in our country.

London was able to pull this off with references to everything from Mary Poppins to the industrial revolution. Also included in their show was an homage to Great Britain’s influence on the world music scene and humorous bits by Mr. Bean and James Bond. The ceremony closed with colorful fireworks and a dramatic torch lighting by future Olympians.

It’s a reminder to all of us that sometimes it’s good to toot your own horn and remind others of your successes and contributions to the world, or at least the surrounding community. You can learn a lot from the achievements of others and use that inspiration to reach your own lofty goals!
