Last week, Chris Nicoli, one of Teltek’s Managing Partners and Teltek founder, Bob Nicoli attended a Membership Lunch at the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce. The Guest Speaker at the luncheon was First Sergeant Matt Eversmann (Ret.), the real life inspiration for the epic film, Black Hawk Down, which recounted the 18 harrowing hours in 1993 when US soldiers were trapped in a hostile district of Mogadishu, Somalia. Young Rangers and Delta Force soldiers fought side-by-side, outnumbered and marked for death by an angry mob, until they were rescued.
At the sold out event, Mr. Eversmann, who now shares his experiences as a motivational speaker, inspired the crowd with tales of bravery and perseverance. After his presentation, Chris and Bob had the opportunity to meet Mr. Eversmann:
First Sergeant Matt Eversmann has received many military decorations, including the Army Service Ribbon, the National Defense Service Ribbon, eight Army Achievement medals and four Army Commendation medals. For his service in Somalia, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with Valor device and the Combat Infantryman’s Badge. Before his retirement in early 2008, Eversmann served 18 months in Iraq leading an elite Army Ranger force.
After twenty years of service, he retired from the Army as an Infantry Company First Sergeant. Mr. Eversmann is currently employed by Allegeant, a wellness company in Maryland where he serves as vice president.
Teltek is a company full of military veterans; Bob, Chris and several other members of the Teltek team have served in the Army and Air Force. Although separated by 20 years, Bob Nicoli and Matt Eversmann both completed jump school (Airborne training) at Ft. Benning, GA.
Bob went on to communications school where he received training in telecommunications and radio communications. This training and military experience launched his career in the telecommunications industry and ultimately lead him to establish Teltek in 1997. Chris recounted how his military experience shaped his business practices in a blog he wrote titled 2 Business Lessons Instilled in Every Veteran.
We are grateful for all of the veterans who put their service before self and especially for First Sergeant Matt Eversmann‘s commitment to serve our country.
