Blackberry’s open letter to consumers

Before iPhone and Android dominated the marketplace Blackberry was the original frontrunner in the smart phone race.  So much so that use of the term “crackberry”, a slang term used to describe the excessive, almost addictive use by its owners, was so widespread that it was added to Webster’s Dictionary in 2006.  However, popularity of these devices has faltered in recent years and the company’s stock prices have plummeted. 

But Blackberry wants’ it’s loyal users and the rest of the market to not count them out of this fight.  In an open letter to their “valued customers, partners and fans” Blackberry acknowledges challenging times and the resulting reconstruction effort but assures everyone that they are committed to continuing to support their base – the world’s business professional. 

 

The letter asserts that they still provide a best in class productivity tools, security, enterprise mobility management and mobile social networking and urges customers that they “can continue to count on us.” 

 

I interpret this as a “hang in there while we address how we can remain relevant” message.  Sadly, I’ve lost my confidence in Blackberry many moons ago but hope that they prove me wrong here . . . after all, we all love a good comeback story.
