Relocating your business is a stressful task that is unavoidable. As you can imagine, relocating your business is a very long process. So proper planning must be put into place long before the move date—this is not something that can be done overnight. So, in order to prevent an IT and telecommunications moving tragedy, here are a couple things that you should consider:

 

1. Schedule your site survey of the new location with Teltek.

Is your new office location a cement ceiling or a drop ceiling? Will your new space require plenum or non-plenum cabling? These questions may seem unnecessary and most often times are overlooked, but these are very important factors you should consider.

2. Contact your carrier and provider

Now these steps are tricky. In most situations, your carrier will require 30 days notice of transferring phone and internet services to a new location—that is if your service is even offered at the new location, which requires a new task of switching all of your numbers to a new carrier. In addition to moving your services, you must also move the equipment. Depending on how many phones you have, the move can take hours. When relocating your phone system, there are some questions you might need to ask:

“Is there a working phone system already installed in the new office?”

If so, it may just be a matter of making sure the system works with your phones and that it has enough extensions.

 

“Does my current phone system allow for future growth?”

Before going through the lengthy process of relocating your whole system, evaluate your phone and see if it will support you for the next couple of years. If the answer is no, then you should consider upgrading now, which will be cheaper in the long run.
