How To Set Up Email Delegation In Outlook

Jun 18, 2015

You are busy and don’t have time to go through your emails everyday. So eventually, you have 50 unread emails…then 100 unread emails…then 200! Wouldn’t it be great to allow someone else to take care of your 200 unread emails? Well…you can! Outlook does wonderful things–one of those is email delegation. You can delegate access to your email to another person so they can read, delete, and even send emails on your behalf. Keep on reading and follow this step-by-step blog on how you can relieve your stress of checking all of those emails!

Adding a Delegate:

  • If another person (lets call him Joe) wants to send an email on your behalf, Joe must do the following:
    • Open a new blank email
    • Click the “Options” tab
    • Select the “From” box (located to the right of the “Bcc” option in the tab), and a new “From” dialogue box should pop up on the email:

  • In the “From” drop down, click “Other Emails” then Joe must type in the email that he wants to send from (like yours)
  • Joe can only send emails from accounts that have granted his “permission”…which leads us to our next step!

Granting Permission:

  • In order for Joe to send emails on your behalf, you need to give Joe permission from your account:
    • In your Outlook, click the “File” tab
    • Select “Account Settings”

  • Select “Delegate Access” in the drop down bar
  • When the dialogue box pops up, select “Add” and then type in the email address (in this case the address is Joe’s) that you want to add.
  • Make sure the settings look like the below picture, then select “OK” and you should be good to go!

And that is how you set up email delegation! Are you relieved yet?
