For those of you unfamiliar with what a Tablet PC is, it’s a portable computer that simulates similar functions of a laptop or desktop computer, but relies on a single screen for primary input. This technology was first released to consumers shortly after the turn of the century. Back then, Tablet PCs were about the size and weight of a laptop (minus the keyboard). Also, they were not cost effective for the consumer. Now fast forward to 2010: In just this last year, we have seen and influx of the Tablets in the marketplace which includes Apple’s iPad , Samsung’s GalaxyTab and introduced just this past week, RIM’s Blackberry Playbook. This technology has made its way into the business world. Avaya has improved upon this technology which will change how we communicate in and out of the workplace. On September 15th, Avaya unveiled a suite of new products for its enterprise marketplace. The theme was collaboration, and what better way to culminate the event than by showing off a new tablet coupled with revolutionary software. It’s called the Avaya Flare Experience. This software allows the user to access email, Internet, and social media all in one streamlined interface. Additionally, users can manage their contact list (synced with Outlook), make standard audio calls, and even video calls. However, the software alone is useless without paramount hardware to implement it on. That’s where Avaya’s new tablet comes in. It’s called the Avaya Desktop Video Device, and although it’s name is not as flashy as Ipad or GalaxyTab, its sleek design which includes a high definition display, and a built in webcam, more than makes up for it. The touch of your finger is all that is needed to navigate, allowing you to drag contacts into a conference call, share documents, and of type IM’s and emails. The Avaya Flare Experience is truly something to behold.
