Porting, or moving your phone number allows you to keep your existing phone number even if you are moving to a new office or changing the service provider. Listed below is a step by step process for how to successfully port your phone number, as well as a description of possible fees that you may incur.
Worst case scenario: If your phone number is controlled by a 3rd party (broker) they may not want to release the number
NOTE: Do not terminate your service with your existing company before initiating service with the prospective new company.
1. Contact the new company, which will start the process of porting your number by contacting your current company. Be prepared to provide the new company with your 10-digit phone number, customer account number, and five-digit zip code. If you had created a passcode to protect your account, you may also need to provide that passcode.
2. Porting of your phone number will take up to 1 business day, per FCC regulations.
Possible Fees Charged to You
