Last weekend, Teltek participated in Westminster’s Fall Fest. We had a vendor space at the annual event for Saturday and Sunday and our sole objective was to distribute Teltek balloons to the kids. As you may or may not know, Teltek has two offices; one in Baltimore, MD and another in Westminster, MD, so we like to connect to our Carroll County community when we have the opportunity to do so.
Participating in the festival involved some planning and teamwork, but it turned out to be a very enjoyable event. Christy, Bob and I kicked off the first shift on Saturday. Luckily, Bob was there to handle transporting the helium tank…did you know a large helium tank weighs 160 pounds? Once we were set up, Christy and I got busy inflating and tying off balloons and we soon had the tent roof filled with them. The kids were excited to have one of helium-filled treats; at least most of them were. I found out the hard way that some children are afraid of balloons…who knew?
I was impressed with the politeness of the kids. They all said “please” and “thank you”. A few of them politely refused a balloon since they already had one. What??? I heard this so many times that I started responding with “the festival rule is that you can have 5”. We also had a guarantee on our balloons. If after leaving the booth, a balloon “escaped” or popped, it was gladly replaced. We like to keep ALL our customers happy 😀
The morning went by quickly and the times we were not interacting with fair-goers was spent sampling the festival food and getting to know our vendor neighbors. On one side we had a chiropractic office and on the other side was a martial arts studio. We even enjoyed each other’s benefits; Debi had her spine checked and Bob used karate skills he was not aware he had to break a board! One of our neighbors may become a Teltek customer if all goes well.
There was also some great people watching. We admired dogs happy to strut alongside their owners, funny t-shirts and colorful characters like the Buffalo Wild Wings Buffalo who took time out from roaming to pose with me for a photo!
Christy and I took some time to catch up as well. We talk every day, but since she works in Westminster and I’m in Baltimore, we don’t get to see each other as much as we’d like to. Later in the day, Lindsey came to replace Christy and I got to chat with her too. Bob and Debi relieved us to take the last shift of the day and the Sunday crew consisted of John, Bob, Chris and Emily.
Weather at the festival was wonderful for both days, but we would have been there anyway. Teltek is not a fair-weather company, we are there no matter what. In fact, helping our customers’ phone systems recover from power outages or other weather related emergencies is where we really shine 😀
