Microsoft Office 2010, What Has Improved Since The 2007 Release?

Jan 27, 2012

The lastest edition of Microsoft Office has a few improvements over the 2007 version, but what exactly has changed? Although it was released last May, we’ll go through each program and highlight the revisions for you in case you are still considering upgrading to 2010.

You will notice that one of the biggest changes is the ability to collaborate with others, a feature that is now available for Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote. The new Backstage view makes it easier to manage and print the documents you create and new web apps allow you to post documents online directly from Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or OneNote

Word: Users are now able to edit a document simultaneously with other writers to maximize collaboration efforts.

Excel: A new web app lets you edit documents with other users. A very cool new design element is Sparklines. A Sparkline is a tiny chart embedded in a worksheet cell and that can be used to illustrate a pattern in your data, such as an increase or decrease in value.

PowerPoint: Now there’s a video editing tool that allows you to embed, trim and add special effects to videos within the program. There’s also a function you can use to create links for real-time, online viewing. A co-authoring feature is present as well.

One Note:  A new Web App allows group editing and you can highlight your changes to make them easily visible to the other users. You can also link notes back to their source with Linked Notes.

Outlook: The new Outlook Social Connector allows you to keep current with social media. By clicking on the Sender or Receiver’s name in an Outlook email or meeting request, you can view that user’s photos and status updates in the People Pane. Quicksteps lets you custom design macros for tasks such as forwarding messages.

Publisher: New alignment guidance technology helps to keep your text and images precise. There is also a print and print-preview improvement so you can view your creation accurately before you print

Access: You can now publish a database to the web. It has new drag-and-drop navigation forms and a revamped Macro Designer.
