At Teltek, we are all encouraged to attend classes, workshops, seminars and other educational opportunities to better ourselves, our work product and the company and when we heard about the Launch Box program, we knew it would be a worthwhile endeavor.
Last week, I began my journey with “The Launch Box“. It’s a three day bootcamp for marketing professionals designed to provide assistance with marketing, branding and public relations. The workshop is held at Carroll Community College’s Miller Center for Small Business on three Tuesdays in October. Classes are led by Elizabeth Lilley of Sonata Venture Solutions and this grant funded initiative is partially subsidized by the Carroll County Department of Economic Development.
Enrollment in the program is limited to ten non-competing companies and there is an application process. Priority is given to residents of Carroll County and businesses located in or moving to Carroll County. As you you may know, Teltek’s corporate headquarters is located on Main Street in Westminster, so we seemed to have a good shot at acceptance into the program. I submitted my application and was selected to be a participant!
The format of the instruction is collaborative workshop, so participants are encouraged to share what methods have worked for them, what ideas have failed and comment on the ideas and questions of their peers. This is where the “non-compete” aspect of the selection process is so helpful. We can freely assist and encourage each other while learning about other industries.
Day one began with each of us delivering an elevator pitch describing our company, our involvement with the company and what we hope to achieve through the program. Among the businesses participating in my workshop are a coffee shop, insurance agency, assisted living facility and graphic designer, so we have a wide variety of companies represented!
Exercises will include creating a marketing strategy and budget, evaluating and designing marketing materials and launching a public relations campaign.
A future blog will summarize my complete Lauch Box experience, but for now, wish me luck!
