Java is a programming language and computing platform. Because of its speed, security and reliability, there are many applications and websites that rely on Java and will not work unless you have it installed on your machine. In addition to laptops, data centers, game consoles, scientific supercomputers, cell phones and the Internet, Xima’s Chronicall’s is one of those Java enabled applications.
What do I need to do?
As with any software, from time to time, updates are released. These updates are designed increase performance, stability, and security. While these are important updates, to prevent the updates from interrupting the Chronicall services, we recommend disabling them. To disable automatic updates:
- Open Java in the Control Panel
- Choose the Update tab
- De-select “Check for Updates Automatically”
Once you have disabled them automatically, you will have the flexibility to schedule a time to update Java on the server as well when your PC notifies you of an available update.
When and how should I perform the update?
You’ll only need to perform the update when prompted by Java.
To ensure that Chronicall will continue to run after the update without interruption STOP ALL Chronicall services (Chronicall, Chronicall Database, and Chronicall Recording Library (if applicable)) before updating Java on your Chronicall server.
Since Chronicall will not log data while the services are stopped, we recommend that you do this during off hours. Once the update has been completed you’ll simply need to start the services again and you’ll be ready to rock!
