Over last weekend it came to light that IE had a serious security issue. The security flaw allows remote hackers the ability to execute code on the affected machine if they visit a malicious website. To compound issues, this flaw was present in every version of IE from IE 6 forward.
Even though XP has run through its life cycle for support, MS still decided to have the patch address IE versions running on XP as well.
This update is being pushed out automatically to all users.
Ok, so how do you know if you have the patch already or not?
To see if you have the update installed on your IE installations do this:
- Open IE
- In the upper right corner, click on the gear (Settings menu)
- Select “About Internet Explorer”
You will see a screen similar to this:
Look where it says “Update Versions: 11.0.7 (KB2964358)”. Click the KB number and it will take you to the Microsoft Support Website that will show you that you have the correct update. The top of the Microsoft page will look like this:
The Microsoft recommended way to obtain and install this update is to complete a Microsoft Updates Automatically.
