A few weeks ago, we briefed you on the massive job Atos has of keeping all the technology for London’s Olympic Games on line and safe from harm. You can read that blog here. Today we will give you a few more facts about the high tech headquarters, otherwise known as the Technology Operations Centre or TOC.
Acting as mission control for all 94 Olympic competition and non-competition venues, The Technology Operations Centre monitors and controls the IT systems that deliver the results from all the Olympic and Paralympic sports competitions to the world’s media in real time.
Situated on the 20th floor of the CitiGroup Centre in the Canary Wharf business district, the TOC officially opened in October of 2011. In the same skyscraper as the TOC is the Integration Test Lab (ITL), designed for configuring and testing the equipment needed for specific sporting events. Acer supplied the TOC with all of its computers.
For the duration of the 2012 Summer Olympics, the Centre will operate at full capacity with aproximately 450 business technologists covering 150 positions. Their collective job is to manage and monitor the technology infrastructure and systems including IT security, telecommunications, power and the results systems around the clock.
The Centre is responsible for about 11,500 computers and servers at locations across Britain and it keeps track of issues with a trouble-ticketing system. Turnaround times for repair are based on the specific type of problem.
