The Labor Day holiday signifies many different things, depending on where you are in life and what’s important to you. For some, it means a day off work to spend with family and friends at a picnic or the opportunity to buy summer clothing at bargain basement prices. It’s also the fashionable time of year to stop wearing white.
Wikipedia defines Labor Day as “an American federal holiday observed on the first Monday in September that celebrates the economic and social contributions of workers”, so hopefully we all took time to raise a glass to ourselves for all of our hard work since last Labor Day!
More than anything, Labor Day signifes the end of the summer and return to school for students of all ages. I think this holiday could be compared in some ways to New Years Day. Just as you take time that day to contemplate the past year and what you’ll change or accomplish in the new one, you could reflect on where you are in life and how you want to take things to the next level through education, whether it’s a personal or professional goal.
Education is a great way to continue your evolution as a person and in this age of technology, it’s easier than ever to learn something new. Online classes have made education accessible to just about everyone and that can be as small as learning how to unclog your drain via a You Tube video or as large as achieving a degree through an online university.
If you’re a very social person, online learning may not be your preferred method of interaction and in that case, you can get your fix from a brick and mortar college, cooking classes at a restaurant or learn how to race a car at the track. Educational opportunites are everywhere, it’s a simple matter of researching what you are interested in and then finding someone who teaches that subject. Jewelry making, bartending, kayaking, embroidery, even CPR. If there is something you’re really good at and not many classes available in your specialty, maybe your new goal is to teach that!
