Data Privacy Day And What It Means To Your Business

Jan 31, 2013

January 28th, officially known as Data Privacy Day, came and went earlier this week with very little fanfare. Canada, the US and 27 countries in the European Union have officially designated the 28th as a day to raise awareness about the importance of data privacy. While it’s not a well-known event, it serves as a reminder to protect what is important to everyone these days.

Data Privacy Day’s initiative originally focused on raising awareness among young adults to stress the importance of protecting their personal information online, specifically when social networking.  This day promotes events and activities that feature the development of technology tools that promote an individual’s control over their private information and encourage compliance with privacy laws and regulations.

Although many of us freely give up our personal information to post on Facebook, Twitter and other social media sites, we are all still entitled to certain degree of privacy. If your business collects extensive information on your clients, patients, vendors, etc. it’s a reminder to make sure you have the proper measures in place to protect it.

We take data security very seriously here at Teltek and are happy to share some of our advice on best practices for everything from password protection to safely making online purchases. For an in-depth analysis of your in-house security measures, call Teltek IT today for a consultation.
